Look. Now is the perfect time to pre-order Real Queer America: LGBT Stories from Red States. If you do it now, you’ll have enough time to forget about it before it shows up in your mailbox or on your doorstep, and then it’ll be a nice surprise! Who doesn’t want a present from themselves in the past?
I like to describe Real Queer America as a “reported travel memoir,” which is a fancy way of saying that it’s about my experience meeting amazing LGBT people in conservative parts of the United States on an epic cross-country road trip. All told, I went to Texas, Indiana, Utah, Arkansas, Mississippi, Tennessee, and Georgia—and even then, I felt like I barely scratched the surface of the amazing queer communities that are cropping up all around the country. The book is really a love letter to LGBT people living in those unexpected places. It’s also about how I learned to love the red states after a blue-state childhood—to the point that I came out as a transsexual woman in the South and found queer love in the Midwest. The book comes out in March 2019 and I’d be honored if you would read it.
Real Queer America is available for pre-order on Amazon in both hardcover and Kindle.
